Lake Orion Robotics - In the Community

The Robotics team promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Math within our community by demonstrating the robots and showing people young and old what you can do with these skills. More importantly, we are able to show the community just how much fun this is.

School Events

Lake Orion Robo Expo

  • At the Robo Expo, the team showed off the awards our team has earned, the accomplishments our team has completed, and the robots we have built. In addition, the team takes this opportunity to thank our sponsors for all the support that they have shown the team throughout the season.

Lake Orion High School 8th Grade Welcome Night

  • Team 302 spent the night showing off the benefits of an introduction to STEM at an early age, by showing off our robots and giving the incoming Dragons a sneak peek into the behind the scenes workings of a robotics team. After a quick walk around the collection of clubs and interest groups, the incoming freshmen picked out their schedules and pathways for their educational paths. Many current members joined after seeing a team demonstration at the Welcome Night.

Lake Orion High School Homecoming Parade

Homecoming Parade Picture Homecoming Parade picture Homecoming Parade picture
  • For the last several years, Team 302 was given the profound privilege of walking in Lake Orion High School’s Homecoming Parade. This awesome experience is usually only one given to the sports teams, and popular arts clubs. To be included in the parade shows that the school truly values the efforts and values of the robotics team.

Webber Elementary Science & Art Fair

  • Demonstrates robots and promote STEM among younger students supporting Lake Orion Community Schools

Paint Creek Elementary Science & Art Fair

  • Team 302 was invited to attend, and demonstrate robots at Paint Creek’s Science Discovery Night. While there, we showed off a number of our robots like Draco, Aerial Assist, and the 2015 OCCRA bot. The team helped to inspire the young minds of Paint Creek to search for STEM related opportunities. Our teams attendance has been described by the principal of Paint Creek to be one of the main attractions of the Discovery Night.

Community Events

Blessings in a Backpack

dracco
  • Use our "kid-friendly" Dragon robot, Draco, to solicit donations at events and collect funds to support this activity with provides backpacks filled with food on weekends to "at-risk" students in our community

Breast Cancer Walk

  • The team supported patients with Breast Cancer by wearing their pink Team 302 T-shirts, and by taking a long walk in a Rochester park. We volunteer at this event every October mainly because it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This event was an excellent opportunity for Team 302 to help out its community.

Mom2Mom Sale

  • Helped local moms unload and carry their items to be sold at an indoor sale to benefit local families and raise awareness of robotics activities in our community

Walk for Warmth

  • Demonstrated robots and raised funds to help local people avoid utility shut-off through the Emergency Utility Assistance program in Oakland County

Golling Classic Car Show

  • One of our sponsors invited Team 302 to demonstrate our robots at their local car show. While there, we demonstrated our robots, such as Draco and the Magic Carpet, and helped collect donations for a charity collected by Draco.

Lake Orion Library Summer Reading Kick-Off

  • Demonstrates robots to children of all ages to promote interest in STEM and support "Reading is Fun"

Library's Summer Reading Kickoff

  • At our local libraries kickoff, Team 302 showed off Draco, one of our First Year Ping Pong Pandemonium bots, and the Magic Carpet. We got kids of all ages interested in robotics, due to our demonstration. The Library’s Summer Reading Kickoff is an annual event encourages children to continue to learn, even during the summer. Mostly they push English and literature, however many programs and events are used to educate the children on science and math. The team spent our time demonstrating our robots, the public showing how robotics is not only educational but also enjoyable.

Lake Orion Farmers' Market

  • Demonstrates robots to draw people to market, raise awareness of local robotics programs and raise funds supporting the Orion Art Center

GM Orion Assembly Plant Bring Your Child to Work Day

  • Team 302 spent the day at General Motors “Bring Your Child to Work Day”. We brought with us a Local Elementary FLL team, in order to teach the children about robotics, and our impact on the community. While at the event, we discussed the impact of STEM in each field that the children mentioned that they have an interest in. Due to the diversity of our students and their interests, we were able to discuss and demonstrate how science and technology has made an impact on virtually every field known to these kids.
